Little Garth and his siblings Trisha & Willie were recently rescued from rough conditions by an SPCA volunteer. They are truly mixed breed pups, mostly Dachshund-Chihuahua (Chiweenie), though they all have long legs and a small Shepherd-Dalmation grandparent!  With improved care, all appeared to be thriving and loving the extra attention. But at his first vet exam Garth was diagnosed with suspected Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA), an ultimately fatal heart defect present from birth, which results in an irregular mixing of blood between two major coronary arteries.  PDA may cause a variety of symptoms including a very loud heart murmur, lethargy, fast breathing and cough.  While PDA is one of the most common congenital heart abnormalities diagnosed in dogs, it's also one of the few heart diseases that can truly be cured!  We decided that this sweet little guy should have the surgery and it was a complete success, so now he can have a normal happy and healthy future.  If you'd like to help with the cost of Garth's surgery ($2,700!), please click on the Donate PayPal button on the right side of this screen.  Pictures of Garth include one taken just two days after his surgery at Texas A&M, being held by his surgeon and the tech that took care of him during recovery--they did such a great job!  Garth is now fully recovered and every bit as playful and active as his siblings, and even catching up size-wise.  So he's finally been cleared for adoption and ready to go to his new forever home.  As with all our rescue dogs, Garth and his siblings have been neutered/spayed and are up to date on their vaccinations, worming, flea control and heartworm prevention.  Their adoption fees are just $95.00 each, plus a one-time charge of $10.99 for a LIFETIME microchip registration with HomeAgain.  If you'd love to call Garth a Medical-Miracle-Member of your family, please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online adoption application.    Thanks for thinking rescue!
