This lovely, sensitive and intelligent Australian Shepherd Special Needs* mix named Violet is finally ready for adoption after months of life as a fearful stray.  Caring neighbors fed Violet, but she was initially so shy that she cleverly evaded attempts at capture.  Finally one of our great volunteers managed to win her trust and thinks she's now ready to accept a loving new family.  As with all our rescue dogs, Violet has already been spayed and is current on her vaccinations, worming, flea control and heart worm prevention.  Her adoption fee is just $95.00 plus a one-time $10.99 charge for her lifetime microchip registration with HomeAgain.  If you'd welcome this sweetheart into your family please click on the green arrow icon near the top of the page to submit an online adoption application (no cost or obligation).  Violet and her rescue pals will be furever grateful!

* Violet seems to have normal hearing but has seriously impaired vision (though she's not completely blind), most likely caused by genetics associated with “double merles".  Crossing two merles of any breed results in pups being born with a 25% chance of being double merle.  These puppies generally have excessive white coloration as well as hearing and/or vision impairments.  Most often these puppies are deaf, while vision defects range from malformed pupils to a complete lack of eyeballs.

Despite her difficulties seeing, Violet has a very loving personality and adores being petted and cuddled.  However she can become worried by the presence of young children (about 5 years or less) and might also jump up on people to greet them--from in front or behind!  Therefore Violet wouldn't be a good choice around anyone at increased risk from falls.  Violet thrives on routine so she knows where most everything is, including her kennel where she feels secure to sleep at night.  This girl loves to play with her toys, but can't join games like "fetch" because she can't see where the toy was thrown.  Violet generally welcomes the presence of other dogs and would do best in a home with a doggie companion she can follow around, especially outdoors.  She also seems to like cats and tries to nuzzle and play with them.
